TWENTY SECOND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF PHILOSOPHY

on the topic

:THE PHILOSOPHY OF THE ENVIRONMENT
NATURE AND CRUCIAL ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES IN THE 21st CENTURY

The Conference will take place from 16th – 22nd of July 2010, in the town
of Kalamata, Messinia, Greece

The conference aims to provide a broad forum for exploring issues
referring to Nature and to Environmental Philosophy which are crucial in
our era. This means that all legitimate fields of study and philosophical
research are included in the scope of the Conference, provided that their
relevance to environmental issues in 21st century is clearly indicated. We
are particularly interested in all branches of philosophy as far as they
are exploring environmental issues and of course we pay special attention
to academic research papers from all philosophical traditions referring to
environmental philosophy, broadly conceived (and not just as environmental
ethics), which investigate crucial issues and problems concerning the
environment, and generally Ecological Philosophy

The Conference will examine, in a scholarly way, matters of various
philosophical traditions, concerning nature in relation to environmental
concern. This will include: Philosophical traditions of West and East, for
example Greek philosophy and nature; Christian attitude towards nature;
Christian philosophy and ecology; Islamic philosophy of nature and
ecology; European philosophy of nature; Indian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese
etc. conceptions of nature and their implication to our present and future
environmental problems

In addition, the Conference aims to subject modern environmental theories
philosophies, and movements to a critical philosophical examination in
which their metaphysical, political and ethical premises will be
indicated, and to arrive at guidelines for further philosophical inquiry
and at a framework for policy-making in environmental affairs

The conference is open to all philosophers, specialists in Greek
philosophy and culture, environmental scientists, engineers, economists
educationists, rhetoricians and communication specialists, lawyers
politicians, government officials, health and medical professionals, and
concerned citizens who are interested and dedicated to finding ways to
bring insight and cures to the ecological crisis of our times by defending
environmental policies and protecting the environment

The main subject areas of the Conference (which may include history of
